What to expect when visiting Mui Ne
Mui Ne is a coastal town and traditional fishing village on Vietnam’s southeast coast. It is famous for its red and white sand dunes, spread out just beside soft sand beaches and lush trees.
Wind conditions are perfect on this side of the country, so kitesurfing is popular from October to April in Mui Ne. Other exciting activities include sailing, windsurfing, sandboarding, and quad biking on the sand dunes.
Which railway station to pick when going to Mui Ne?
When people talk about Mui Ne Railway Station, they are most likely referring to Phan Thiet. This railway station is the closest one to Mui Ne, located 30 km away.
If you are coming from Nha Trang though, you can only take the train to Binh Thuan Railway Station (previously named Muong Man Railway Station).

There are three ways to travel the distance of 30 km (19 miles) from Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet): by public bus (1h - 1h 30m), taxi from phan thiet station (1 hour) and taxi from binh thuan station (1 hour). Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet) by Public Bus
The red local Bus #9 is a very convenient way to get from Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet) to Mui Ne. Previously, the local bus only operated from Phan Thiet Station. But since 2020, it has been “temporarily” extended to include Binh Thuan Railway Station and Ham Thanh Commune.
Bus #9 departs every 25 minutes from 05:30 to 18:00 and costs only 35,000 VND ($1.40). It is very likely that the bus will stop somewhere close to your accommodation. Check Google Maps to see where you have to get off the bus based on its route below.

The bus makes the same stops on the way back, so you can also take Bus #9 when travelling from Mui Ne to Phan Thiet or Binh Thuan.
Phan Thiet Station to Mui Ne by Public Bus
Bus #9 stops right in front of Phan Thiet Railway Station. From here, it takes about 40 minutes to get to the beach area in Ham Tien and 1 hour to Mui Ne town centre.

Binh Thuan Station to Mui Ne by Public Bus
If you’re coming from Binh Thuan Railway Station, the nearest bus stop is at the T-Junction, located about 5 minutes away on foot.
The journey with Bus #9 takes around 1.5 hours. Fares start from 35,000 VND ($1.40).
Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet) by Taxi from Phan Thiet Station
A faster option is to take a taxi.
The taxi ride from Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet) to Mui Ne takes around 1 hour. Fares start from 350,000 VND ($14.10) when you hail a taxi from the street. You shouldn’t have a hard time finding a taxi just outside the train station.

Mui Ne Railway Station (Phan Thiet) by Taxi from Binh Thuan Station
Binh Thuan Railway Station, formerly called Muong Man, is located about 40 km from Mui Ne.
Travel time by taxi takes around 1 hour and fares start from 500,000 VND ($20).
