Even for those on a lower budget, there’s plenty to enjoy on and around Capri.

There are 3 ways to travel the distance of 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Sorrento to Capri by ferry (15 to 30 minutes), Day Trip (8 hours) and private Boat Tour (8 hours 30 minutes). The easiest way to travel from Sorrento to Capri is by ferry. With the short distance between the two towns, travel time is only 15 to 30 minutes, and tickets start at €22.
There are four main ferry operators on this route. Alilauro offers year-round trips, while NLG (Navigazione Libera Del Golfo) and SNAV operate only during the summer.
Departure and arrival stations
Ferries depart from the Port of Sorrento, located 500m north of Piazza Tasso, in the town centre.
You’ll arrive at the Capri Ferry Terminal, the island’s main port on the north coast, roughly 3 km from the town centre.

It’s easy enough to buy your ferry tickets at the port, especially on weekdays. But if you’re travelling in the peak of summer, during the holidays, or on weekends, then we highly recommend that you book your tickets online beforehand.
Car ferry to Capri
The towns of Capri and Anacapri are closed off to traffic for most of the year, but the rest of the island is not. Having a scooter can be useful when travelling between these two destinations and exploring the island’s many beaches.
Scooter rental agencies are available on the island, particularly at Marina Grande. All ferries dock here, so you can see them as soon as you arrive in Capri.
If you want to bring a scooter that you rented from Sorrento, you can also do so by taking a Caremar car ferry. Rates for a passenger with a scooter from Sorrento to Capri start from €33. Travel time is around 22m - 32m.
Note that this service is available to tourists only in the off-peak months of November to March. In summer, only residents are allowed to bring their vehicles to the island.
The ferries depart from and dock at the same ports as the passenger ferries.
Sorrento to Capri by Day Trip
Capri is never short of day-trippers, especially those coming from Sorrento. The advantage of booking a day trip is that you’ll have a local tour guide by your side to show you around Capri’s iconic wonders.
Day trips from Sorrento to Capri usually begin at 09:00 and take around 8 hours. This includes 6 hours of free time on the island. You’ll also have about an hour to take a peek at the Green Grotto and White Cave, among a few others, before heading back to Sorrento.

Hallo, danke für die Informationen. Leider habe ich nicht gefunden, ob man Gepäck (Reisetasche 20kg) ohne Probleme auf allen Fähren mitnehmen kann? Wir wollen auf Capri 4 Tage bleiben…habe gehört, dass es von Neapel aus Beschränkungen der einzelnen Anbieter gibt…es wäre sehr schön, von euch zu hören. DANKE
