Da Nang is a bustling coastal city in central Vietnam. A known transport hub, it’s a popular gateway to the nearby city of Hoi An. But this fast-developing city is so much more than a stopover, it is now a destination on its own.
Travellers are making Da Nang a part of their itinerary for its laidback beaches, clear waters, and centuries-old pagodas. Some of Da Nang’s best attractions include the Marble Mountains, Ba Na Hills, the Son Tra Peninsula, and My Khe Beach.
4 ways to get from Hoi An to Da Nang
There are 4 ways to travel the distance of 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Hoi An to Da Nang by bus (1 hour), minivan (45 minutes - 2 hours), Taxi (1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes) and Motorbike (45 minutes). The minivan is a cost-efficient option when travelling solo or with just one other companion from Hoi An to Da Nang. Prices for a minivan ticket start from €4.
Minivans are available from 06:00 to 20:00, with several departures daily. It’s best to book your tickets online at least a day before to avoid any hassle on the day of your trip. The journey takes about 45 minutes - 2 hours.
You can choose from a few companies. Barri Ann Travel, Hoi An Express, and iHome Transfer all offer drop-off at Da Nang Airport and Da Nang Train Station. Dong Hanh Travel also operates on this route, but only drops off passengers at Da Nang city centre.
Minivan companies don’t provide shuttle service to Da Nang Bus Station. If that’s where you’re headed, your only options are to take a taxi or a motorbike.

Hoi An to Da Nang by Bus
The bus is an affordable way to get from Hoi An to Da Nang. Bus fares start from €6.50 and the journey takes around 1 hour.
You can choose from two bus companies operating on this route: Hanh Cafe and Camel Travel.
Public Bus #1 (not available as of March 2023)
Public buses used to be a popular choice for tourists and locals travelling from Hoi An to Da Nang. But now that they have stopped operations, some drivers are taking advantage of the situation by offering overpriced taxi rides to tourists.
Public Bus #1 operated between Hoi An and Da Nang from 05:30 to 18:00. Travel time was about an hour to Da Nang Railway Station and 1 hour to Da Nang Bus Station.
Buses departed from Hoi An Bus Station. The ticket price was 20,000 VND (€0.70), although drivers often tried to charge more — up to 50,000 VND (€1.80).

Hoi An to Da Nang by Motorbike
Are you visiting Da Nang as just a day tour from Hoi An? If you know how to ride, renting your own motorbike is the best choice.
Driving a motorbike is an exciting and affordable way to travel from Hoi An to Da Nang. You will find plenty of rental shops in town, but we recommend Hoi An Bike Rental, which offers good bikes and excellent customer service. Its rates are around €0.90 to €1.80 more expensive than other shops, but it also gets much better reviews.
Bike rentals start at 195,000 VND (€7.20)/day. You don’t need a license when renting their motorbikes, but you will have to leave an ID.
Keep in mind that riding a motorcycle in Vietnam requires more than basic experience. Traffic is not bad from Hoi An to Da Nang, but it might still be risky for an unfamiliar driver.
Motorbike pick-up in Da Nang
You can still rent a motorbike even when you’re not planning to go back to Hoi An anymore.
Just note that if you rent your bike through Hoi An Bike Rental, they do not have an office in Da Nang. But, they offer a bike pick-up service for an additional fee. That’s 160,000 VND (€5.90) – 210,000 VND (€7.70), depending on the pick-up point in Da Nang.
What we like about this service is that you can leave your luggage at their Hoi An shop. And then they deliver your bags to you when they pick up the motorbike. Convenient, right?
Hoi An to Da Nang by Taxi
If you’re travelling in a group, you can also take a taxi with rates from €13.40.
You can hail a taxi on the street, but we recommend booking your ride online through BookAway. Its cars are generally more spacious and comfortable than regular taxis, and they come with trusted drivers.
Travel time by taxi is about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.
Hoi An to Da Nang by Grab
Grab (Asian Uber) is a popular way to travel between Hoi An and Da Nang. It’s easy too, as long as you have the Grab app installed on your phone.
Rates for a Grab taxi from Hoi An to Da Nang start from 400,000 VND (€14.70). Travelling light? There’s also an option to book a Grab motorbike taxi with fares from 150,000 VND (€5.50).
