How to get from Nha Trang to Mui Ne?

Mui Ne is a coastal town and traditional fishing village on Vietnam’s southeast coast. It is famous for its red and white sand dunes, spread out just beside gorgeous beaches and lush trees.

Wind conditions are perfect on this side of the country, making Mui Ne a popular kitesurfing spot from October to April. Other exciting activities include sailing, windsurfing, sandboarding, and quad biking on the sand dunes.

When travelling the 220 km from Nha Trang to Mui Ne, you have 3 options: a 5.5-hour train, a 6-hour bus, and a 4-hour private transfer. Rates range from 167,000 VND ($7) to 1,935,000 VND ($81).

The train is the cheapest way to get from Nha Trang to Mui Ne. Rates start from 167,000 VND ($7) for the 5.5-hour journey. Note that the train will only take you to Binh Thuan Railway Station, from where you can take a bus or taxi to Mui Ne.

The bus is another affordable option with combined fares from 257,000 VND ($10.50). Like the train though, buses from Nha Trang to Mui Ne park quite far from the city centre (North Phan Thiet Bus Station). From here, you can also get a bus or taxi to Mui Ne.

When travelling in a group, you can take a private transfer from Nha Trang to Mui Ne. Rates start from 1,935,000 VND ($81) for a car that can fit up to 5 people. Travel time is around 4 hours.

When travelling by train from Nha Trang to Mui Ne, you are to get off at Binh Thuan Railway Station (which used to be called Muong Man). Don’t confuse this with Phan Thiet Railway Station, the main train station in Mui Ne.

There are 6 trains operating daily from Nha Trang to Binh Thuan. Most trains depart at night. Do keep that in mind when planning your journey.

The train journey from Nha Trang to Mui Ne takes 4-5 hours. Ticket prices start from 132,000 VND ($5.50).

Trains depart from Nha Trang Train Station, some 2 km west of Nha Trang Beach. You are to get off at Binh Thuan Railway Station, which is still 40 km away from Mui Ne Beach.

The abovementioned schedules are the only ones we recommend when taking the train from Nha Trang to Mui Ne via Binh Thuan Railway Station. There are 4 other trains available, but they arrive in the middle of the night in Mui Ne.

If you arrive at night, you might have a hard time getting a ride to the city centre. And if you manage to get a taxi, you might have to pay an exorbitant amount for it.

From Binh Thuan Railway Station, you can take a bus or taxi to get to Mui Ne.

For the bus, take Bus #9, which is available daily from 05:30 to 18:00. The closest bus stop from Binh Thuan is at T-Junction, about a 5-minute walk. A bus ticket costs 35,000 VND ($1.45) and the journey takes around 1.5 hours.

Alternatively, you can take a 1-hour taxi with rates from 500,000 VND ($21).

There is also an option to take the bus from Nha Trang to Mui Ne. It is a bit more expensive than taking the train, but still a good alternative.

Note that buses operate only from Nha Trang to Phan Tiet city centre. If your accommodation is located around Mui Ne Beach, you’ll have to take an additional bus or taxi from the bus station.

Currently (August 2022), only Kumho Samco operates one daily bus trip from Nha Trang to Mui Ne. This bus departs at 20:30 every night.

A bus ticket costs 242,000 VND ($10) and travel time is around 5 hours.

Buses depart from the Central Bus Station, 7 km west of Nha Trang Beach.

They arrive at North Phan Thiet Bus Station, some 25 km west of Mui Ne Beach.

From North Phan Thiet Bus Station, you can reach the town centre by taking a bus or a taxi.

Bus #9 makes a stop at Tu Van Tu Street, the same street where the bus station is located. Just find the nearest bus stop for buses going to Mui Ne. A ticket costs 35,000 VND ($1.45) for the 1-hour journey. Note that Bus #9 is only available from 05:30-18:00.

If you’re arriving in Phan Thiet beyond the public bus operating hours, your only option is to take a taxi. Rates start from 350,000 VND ($14.50).
