What to expect when visiting Mui Ne
Mui Ne is a coastal town and traditional fishing village on Vietnam’s southeast coast. It is famous for its red and white sand dunes, spread out just beside soft sand beaches and lush trees.
Wind conditions are perfect on this side of the country, so kitesurfing is popular from October to April in Mui Ne. Other exciting activities include sailing, windsurfing, sandboarding, and quad biking on the sand dunes.
4 ways to get from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne
There are 4 ways to travel the distance of 220 kilometers (137 miles) from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne by bus (3 hours 35 minutes to 4 hours 40 minutes), Shared minivan (3 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes), private Transfer (3 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes) and train (4 hours 40 minutes). The journey duration ranges between 3 hours to 4 hours 40 minutes and the quickest way is by shared minivan. Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne by Train
When taking a train from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne, you can take one to either of the two stations closest to the sandy resort town. These are Phan Thiet Railway Station and Binh Thuan Railway Station.
Step 1: Ho Chi Minh Centre to Ho Chi Minh Railway Station by Taxi
Trains to Mui Ne depart from Saigon Station, some 3.5 km north of Ho Chi Minh’s Pham Ngu Lao. You can get there via a 10-minute taxi with fares from 75,000 VND (€2.80).
Step 2: Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne by Train
From Saigon, you can choose which station you want to arrive at in Mui Ne. Phan Thiet is closer to Mui Ne, but there are more trains operating from Ho Chi Minh to Binh Thuan.
Option 1: Ho Chi Minh to Phan Thiet by Train
There is only one direct train operating from Ho Chi Minh to Phan Thiet daily. This leaves at 06:30 in the morning and travel time is around 3h 35m.
We recommend buying your tickets at the train station in Ho Chi Minh. A ticket costs 250,000 VND (€9.20).
You can also book your tickets online beforehand. But the last time we checked (November 2022), you can only do this through the Vietnam Railways website, where a ticket costs 450,000 VND (€16.60). That’s almost double the price of buying them at the train station.
Option 2: Ho Chi Minh to Binh Thuan by Train
If the early morning train is not convenient for you, you can also take one of the trains to Binh Thuan Railway Station, formerly called Muong Man.
But, keep in mind that most of the trains arrive here at night, when buses to Mui Ne are not available anymore. That means that you’ll have to take a more expensive taxi to your hotel.
Train fares from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne via Binh Thuan start from 115,000 VND (€4.20). The journey takes about 3h 25m - 3h 40m.
Step 3: Phan Thiet/Binh Thuan to Mui Ne City Centre by Bus/Taxi
When you take the morning train to either Phan Thiet or Binh Thuan, you can catch Bus #9 to Mui Ne. A ticket costs 35,000 VND (€1.30) .
Bus #9 passes in front of Phan Thiet Railway Station. If you’re coming from Binh Thuan, you’ll find the nearest bus stop at the T-Junction, which is 5 minutes away on foot. Travel time by bus is 1 hour from Phan Thiet and 1.5 hours from Binh Thuan.
If you take one of the evening trains to Binh Thuan, your only choice is to take a 1-hour taxi to Mui Ne. Fares start from 500,000 VND (€18.40).

Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne by Bus
You can choose from six main companies when travelling by bus from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne: Futa Bus, GoEz Travel, Techbus VN JSC, Duc Duong Bus, Kumho Samco and iHome Transfer.
We recommend travelling with Hanh Cafe because it departs from the city centre of Ho Chi Minh and drops you off close to the centre of Mui Ne. Hanh Cafe also offers the cheapest fares from €8.70.
The departure and arrival points for both Futa Bus and Kumho Samco are quite far from the city centres. That means you will spend extra costs and time for your transfers going to/from the bus stations.
Travel time by bus from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne is around 3 hours 35 minutes to 4 hours 40 minutes, but can take longer if you travel during peak hours.
Departure stations
Hanh Cafe departs from Kim Travel Office in District 1, just a 5-minute walk from Ho Chi Minh’s Pham Ngu Lao.
Futa Bus leaves from the Western Bus Station, 9 km west of Pham Ngu Lao. You can get there by taxi for around 200,000 VND (€7.40).
Kumho Samco departs from the Eastern Bus Station (Ben Xe Mien Dong), 19 km south of Pham Ngu Lao. That’s a 30-minute taxi for about 370,000 VND (€13.60).
Bus schedules from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne
Arrival stations
Hanh Cafe arrives at its headquarters in Mui Ne, 4 km southwest of Mui Ne Beach. A taxi ride to your hotel — if you’re staying near the beach — costs around 130,000 VND (€4.80).
Futa Bus arrives at its office in Phan Thiet, 9 km west of Mui Ne Beach. You can get a 10-minute taxi to the beach for around 170,000 VND (€6.30).
Kumho Samco parks at North Phan Thiet Bus Station, 25 km west of Mui Ne Beach. From here, you can take Bus #9 to Mui Ne for 35,000 VND (€1.30). Alternatively, a taxi ride costs around 350,000 VND (€12.90) for the 30-minute journey.
Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne by Shared Minivan
You can get a more luxurious transfer from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne if you travel by limovan.
A minivan ride from Ho Chi Minh to Mui Ne costs around €17.20. The minivan journey takes about 3 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
There are three companies operating on this route: G5Car, Ben Thanh Travel and GoEz Travel.
What we like about this option is that some minivan companies offer free hotel pickup and drop-off. This saves you the hassle and extra cost of finding your way to and from bus stations.
Departure and arrival station
G5Car departs from Ho Chi Minh Airport and arrives at Poshanu Resort, 17 km west of Mui Ne Beach.
3S Limo departs from its Ho Chi Minh office in Pham Ngu Lao and arrives at its office in Phan Thiet, 12 km west of Mui Ne Beach.
