You have 3 options to get from Kampot to Phnom Penh. A bus takes about 3.5 hours, a taxi is a bit more expensive but also faster at 2.5 to 3 hours, while a scenic train ride takes 4 hours and 40 minutes.
The train offers a slow but enjoyable ride to Phnom Penh. Its route gives a better view of the rural landscape of Cambodia, as compared to highways taken by buses and taxis. This is a cheap alternative when travelling this route and only takes a little more time.
Trains in Cambodia don’t run very often, so carefully check if the schedule matches your plans. Trains for this route only operate on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.
