The train offers a slow but enjoyable ride to Phnom Penh. Its route gives a better view of the rural landscape of Cambodia, as compared to highways taken by buses and taxis. This is a cheap alternative when traveling this route and only takes a little more time.

Trains in Cambodia don’t run very often, so carefully check if the schedule matches your plans. Trains for this route only operate on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.

A train ticket costs $7 per person, one-way. You can also transport your car, motorbike or bicycle for $14, $5 and $2 respectively. You can buy these additional freight tickets at the train station.

Trains depart from Kampot Train Station, just a little north from the city center. A tuk-tuk can bring you there in about 5 minutes.

The railway station in Phnom Penh is located downtown and also takes about 5-10 minutes to the city center.

The train makes only one 10-minute stop at Takeo on the way to Phnom Penh. The train route is as follows:
