The train offers a slow but enjoyable ride to Phnom Penh. During this ride, you get a better view of the rural landscape of Cambodia than taking the bus or taxi. Taking the train is a cheap and good alternative when traveling through this route.

Trains in Cambodia don’t run very often, so carefully check if the schedule matches your trip plans. Trains for this route only operate on Mondays, Saturdays and Fridays.

A train ticket costs $7 per person, one-way. You can also transport your car, motorbike or bicycle for $14, $5 and $2. You can buy these additional freight tickets at the train station.

Trains depart from Kampot Train Station, just a little north from the city center. A tuk-tuk can bring you to this railway station in about 5 minutes.

The railway station in Phnom Penh is just downtown and also takes about 5-10 minutes to the city center.

The train makes only one 10-minute stop at Takeo on the way to Phnom Penh. The train schedule looks as follows:
