What to expect when visiting Cebu
Cebu is a highly urbanized city in the Philippines’ Visayas region. Often, it is the gateway to the province’s world-famous gems — diving in Malapascua, sardine run in Moalboal, canyoneering in Alegria, and swimming with whale sharks (butanding) in Oslob.
But if you have at least an extra day, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to spend it here. Cebu City played a huge role in the country’s history. You can learn all about it with a visit to Magellan’s Cross and Fort San Pedro. In for a food trip? You will find the best lechon (the Philippines’ iconic roasted pig) in Cebu City!

Camiguin to Cebu by Ferry
Taking the ferry from Camiguin to Cebu takes a while, but it gives you the chance to make a side trip to the island of Bohol. Also, it’s a great alternative during peak season, when airfares are too expensive.
Keep in mind that for this option, you’ll have to take 2 ferries and a bus.
Step 1: Camiguin to Bohol (Jagna Port) by Ferry
Super Shuttle Ferry operates 1 ferry trip from Camiguin to Bohol every Mon, Wed, and Fri. This departs at 08:00 and arrives at 12:00 noon. Travel time is about 4 hours.
A one-way economy seat costs 640 PHP ($11.00). Tickets are only available at the port, so we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to departure time for a guaranteed seat.
The last time we checked (July 2022), ferries from Camiguin to Bohol are unavailable for online booking. Tickets can only be bought at the port, but feel free to check the BookAway link above to see if online booking has resumed.
Departure and arrival port
All ferries depart from Balbagon Ferry Terminal and dock at Jagna Port.
Step 2: Bohol (Jagna Port) to Tagbilaran by Bus
From Jagna, you’ll have to travel 65 km east to get to Tagbilaran City. The cheapest way to do that is by bus. It’s worth noting that buses can be a bit slow as they make a lot of stops, but they’re also easily accessible and available all day long.
From Jagna Port, walk to the main highway then head to the market located just beside the port. You will find here the buses and shared minivans bound for Tagbilaran.
Fares start from 150 PHP ($2.60) and the journey from Jagna Port to Tagbilaran City takes about 2 hours.
You are to get off at Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran city centre. From here, you can simply take a tricycle to Tagbilaran Port, which is some 4 km away. Tricycle fares start at 50 PHP ($0.80).
Step 3: Tagbilaran to Cebu by Ferry
From Tagbilaran Port, you can choose from 2 companies that can bring you to Cebu City.
OceanJet operates fastcrafts that can complete the journey in only 2 hours. Lite Shipping offers car ferries that take 4 hours to get from Bohol to Cebu.
Ticket prices start from 950 PHP ($16.50) for the fastcrafts and 460 PHP ($8.00) for the car ferries. Note that you will also have to pay port fees worth 20 PHP ($0.30).
You can buy your ticket at the port. But we recommend booking them online beforehand, especially during the busy season.
Departure and arrival port
There are several ports in Bohol, but we recommend departing from Tagbilaran City Port as it is the most accessible when coming from Jagna.
The ferries dock at Cebu Pier 1, located 5 km away from Cebu City centre. From here, the best way to get to the city is by taxi, which takes around 20 minutes and costs about 150 PHP ($2.60).
You can also take the bus. But the bus takes the long way around and you will need about an hour just to get from Cebu Pier 1 to the city centre. Ticket prices start from 50 PHP ($0.80).
