The journey from Hanoi to Ha Giang is as beautiful as the destination. And Ha Giang is home to some of the most amazing landscapes in Vietnam. There are not too many travellers going to this side of northern Vietnam but it’s gradually becoming more well-known.
Ha Giang is winding roads, limestone mountains, and lush hills. If you want to reach Heaven’s Gate, this is the place to be.
When travelling the 300km distance from Hanoi to Ha Giang, you have 2 options: you can either take a bus ($11) or a van ($16.50). Both options take at least 6 hours.
TIP: If you rather book an organized tour, I recommend to have a look at this 3D2N Ha Giang motorbike tour. During three days you will get to see all the highlights of the Ha Giang Loop thanks to an amazing local guide!
You can book a day or night bus, but bear in mind you will still need an accommodation if you travel in the night as you will arrive in Ha Giang very early in the morning.
If you’d like to see some pretty sites through the journey, we suggest booking a day time bus. The entire journey takes about 6h 30min but can take longer depending on which bus company you book with.
Each of the bus companies has different departure and arrival points. Be guided accordingly.

For a few more bucks, you get a more comfortable ride with a limo van to Ha Giang. You can choose from 2 companies: Truly Ha Giang and Viet Culture Tours.
We recommend travelling with Truly Ha Giang as they offer free pick-up and drop-off if your hotels are at the Hanoi Old Quarter and at Ha Giang city center. A seat costs 385,000 VND ($16.50). They have 1 limo van trip daily and departs from Hanoi at 06:30.
