You can easily book your ticket online via BookAway. A bus ride takes at least 4 hours and fares start at $6.50. If you want more comfort, a minivan offers free pick-up and drop-off services. A minivan seat costs $10.
Taking the train is not an option since there is no connecting railway between Dalat and Nha Trang. The only railway in Dalat is a tourist attraction and doesn’t operate trains to Nha Trang.
Although there is an airport 30km south of Dalat (Lien Khuong Airport), there are no direct flights. Flights from Nha Trang to Dalat make a stopover in Ho Chi Minh. This means that the journey takes at least 5 hours, excluding the time it takes to get to and from the airports. Plus, taking the bus is way less harmful to the environment.
The bus is not the safest way to travel in Vietnam. But for this route, it’s the only option. Luckily there are some good options on this route, including a luxurious limousine van!
Duration: 4 hours Cost: 230,000 VND ($10)
Minivan tickets are slightly more expensive than the bus. But in return, you get a luxurious ride in a van with great seats. Also, they include free pick-up at your hotel in Nha Trang and drop-off at your hotel in Dalat.
Considering the hassle and time you save from finding the bus stop or your accommodation, travelling by limo-van is well worth the few dollars more.
Lac Hong Luxury Minivan
We recommend to travel with Lac Hong Luxury Minivan as it receives very good reviews. Their drivers are highly-praised for good and safe driving, while their vans are known to be clean and comfortable.
Lac Hong operates 3 minivan trips from Nha Trang to Dalat daily. These depart at 11:00, 13:30 and 15:30. Travel time is approximately 4 hours and a ticket costs 230,000 VND ($10).
Note that seats for Lac Hong are usually sold-out on weekends, so it’s best to book a ticket at least a week in advance!
We’ve only heard good experiences with Lac Hong so far and that’s why we recommend booking with Lac Hong if you want to travel by van from Nha Trang to Dalat.
Note: One other popular company operating on this route Catthienhai Travel. However, we have received several complaints about this company and that is why we recommend not to book with them.
Sinh Tourist, Hanh Cafe, An Phu Travel and Futa Bus
Duration: 4 hours Cost: 140,000 VND ($6)
The two most well-known companies are The Sinh Tourist and Hanh Cafe. An Phu Travel also receives good reviews. They operate buses that leave from Nha Trang center and also drop you off in the center of Dalat. But Bear in mind that these buses only leave 2 times a day at 7:30 or 13:00.
Another bus company is Futa Bus, but we don’t recommend it. They don’t have a great reputation and do not depart from the center of Nha Trang and also do not drop you off in the center of Dalat.
At Redhouse Backpacker Hostel you will easily meet many fellow travellers. Make new friends during breakfast or the (free) BBQ and explore the city of DaLat together! Dorm-beds already start from $3 and even include free buffet breakfast!
