Flying is a bit faster, but expect to pay at least $90 if you travel by plane, and that’s if you book your flight early. Plus you will miss the experience of crossing the border by foot!

The time you save by taking the plane compared to the bus is only around 3 hours. With the bus you will arrive at 18:30 in Siem Reap centre and with the flight, you will arrive at Siem Reap Airport at 14:00. At the airport, you will still need to wait for your luggage and find a way to get to the centre.

If you still want to fly, you should go first to the closest airport to Don Det, which is 3,5 hours away in Pakse. A bus from Don Det to Pakse costs $18 with Naga Travel and then you’ll need to take a taxi to the airport. For more details, read our article on going from Don Det to Pakse.

The only airline operating between Pakse and Siem Reap is Lao Airlines. Be aware that they only offer one flight a day, which departs at 13:00. This means you have to leave Don Det in the early morning. If you miss it, you’ll have to travel the next day.
