What to expect when visiting Siem Reap
Siem Reap and Angkor Wat come hand in hand with each other. Almost everyone who visits Siem Reap also explores the extensive and remarkable temples of Angkor Wat – the largest religious monument in the world.
Some visitors spend an entire week discovering every corner and carving of the temples, but here’s your reminder to explore beyond Angkor Wat. The city also has cute cafes, a nightly circus that will leave you stunned, never-ending markets, and a lively Pub Street. For many, it exceeds expectations.
3 ways to get from Siem Reap Airport
There are 3 ways to travel the distance of 9 kilometers (6 miles) from Siem Reap Airport by Taxi (20 minutes), Motorbike Taxi (20 minutes) and Tuk-tuk (20 minutes). The journey duration ranges between 20 minutes and the quickest way is by taxi. The lowest priced tickets start from $9 (37,000 KHR) for the motorbike taxi.Siem Reap Airport by Tuk-tuk
If you want to try local transportation, you can take a tuk-tuk outside the airport. These airport tuk-tuks charge a fixed rate of $9 (37,000 KHR) to the city centre.
The tuk-tuks at the parking exit of the airport usually offer cheaper rates. Negotiate for a good deal and expect to pay $4 (16,000 KHR) – $6 (24,000 KHR) to the centre. You’ll find the same rates when you book with taxi apps like Grab.
Some hotels also offer free pick-up services, so don’t forget to check with your accommodation. Better yet, you can book a tuk-tuk online and just pay $6 (24,000 KHR) for the entire vehicle.
Tip: Keep your luggage inside the tuk-tuk. It doesn’t happen often, but there have been a few cases in that thieves try to steal bags from the tuk-tuk while passing by on their motorbikes.
Siem Reap Airport by Motorbike Taxi
A motorbike taxi is a good option for solo backpackers who like the thrill of a motorbike ride. If you are travelling in a group or carrying a lot of luggage, we recommend taking a taxi or a tuk-tuk instead.
You can find the motorbikes near the taxi stand and book them at the airport taxi service counter for $9 (37,000 KHR).
The motorbikes parked at the exit of the airport are also cheaper. Note that some drivers tend to overcharge tourists, so make sure to agree on a fare before riding.
Although most rides go without accidents, we’d like to remind you that jumping on the back of a motorbike is not the safest option. Also, don’t carry your backpack on your back as there have been some cases of bag snatching.
Siem Reap Airport by Taxi
There is a taxi stand just outside Siem Reap Airport. You can book a taxi at the airport taxi service counter for $15 (61,000 KHR) and the ride to the city centre takes about 20 minutes.
If you’re travelling in a group of more than 4 people, you can book a private van. Rates start from $18 (73,000 KHR) and they seat up to 6 passengers.
Klook also offers private transfers to and from Siem Reap Airport. You can book one in advance with fares starting from $15 (61,000 KHR).
Another option is to check PassApp or Grab to book a taxi via your phone. Fares start from $10 (41,000 KHR) with Grab, but bear in mind that fares can vary throughout the day with these taxi apps.

Pass’app 3 $ with tip from Siem Reap town to airport !!
Thanks for this suggestion! I added in the text, but couldn’t find it myself as cheap as $3. It showed me an estimated fare of 24.000 KR ($6). Still cheaper than ordering a taxi at the counter though!
