The quickest way to get from Kep to Sihanoukville is by hailing a taxi on the road or ordering one from your hotel. This will cost around $35-$40, but always make sure you agree on the price and drop-off point in advance.
Booking a taxi online is a little bit more expensive, but you will get better taxis and more leg space. Also, the prices are fixed so you won’t have to bother about negotiating.
You can order a 4-person taxi for $60 or book a larger 12-person taxi for $85. When travelling with a large group, you can split the fare and only pay around $7 per person for a van.
The highway from Kep to Sihanoukville is in good condition so the ride should be quite comfortable.
The only bus company operating on the route from Kep to Sihanoukville is Champa Mekong. Unfortunately, they don’t have the same good reputation as the more well-known Cambodia Post VIP Van or Mekong Express.
The mini-van picked me up several hours later than expected and I heard similar stories from other travellers.
For this reason, we recommend booking the taxi if you don’t want to wait for hours. If you split the fare with more people, the taxi ride will also not be much more expensive.
You can find the mini-buses at the bus station in front of Kep beach. If everything goes according to the plan, they will drop you off in front of Golden Star Inn. This is still a 10-15 minute walk to the center of Sihanoukville.
