Overview Compare Bus Train To Stay
How to get from Hoi An to Mui Ne
When travelling the 725 km journey from Hoi An to Mui Ne, you have 2 options: a 13-hour bus and a 16.5-hour train. Rates start from 443,000 VND ($18.50) and 948,000 VND ($40), respectively.
We don’t think it’s practical to travel this long distance from Hoi An to Mui Ne in one leg. There are plenty of exciting attractions in between these two cities. Quy Nhon, Nha Trang and Dalat are all worth a day or two in your itinerary.
But if you’re short on time and want to travel directly between Hoi An and Mui Ne, you can take a bus. The bus departs and arrives at the centre of both cities and it operates overnight. You can save on daytime as well as a night on hotel costs. Just don’t expect too much — buses aren’t exactly the most comfortable way to travel in Vietnam.
The train offers more comfort and is safer than travelling by bus. With the train, you can expect to get a good night’s sleep. The downside is, there are no direct trains from Hoi An to Mui Ne. You can only take the train from Da Nang to Binh Thuan.
There is no airport close to Mui Ne. The nearest ones are in Ho Chi Minh (4 hours away) and Nha Trang (3 hours away). When you include the airport transfers, you don’t really save a lot of time compared to taking the bus or the train. This is why we don’t recommend taking a flight from Hoi An to Mui Ne.

Hoi An to Mui Ne by Bus
There is only one direct bus that operates from Hoi An to Mui Ne.
Hanh Cafe — the sole operator for this route — offers comfortable buses for affordable fares. However, it has gotten more than a few complaints about rude staff and delayed bus departures.
The advantage of the bus is that it brings you from the centre of Hoi An to the centre of Mui Ne. The disadvantage is that it will be a long and exhausting 13-hour journey. Also, buses are neither as safe nor as comfortable as trains.
Bus fares from Hoi An to Mui Ne start from 443,000 VND ($18.50).
Departure and arrival station
Hanh Cafe departs from its terminal in Hoi An centre, within walking distance of many hotels in the Old Town. It arrives at its headquarters in Mui Ne centre, just a short taxi ride to Mui Ne Beach.

Hoi An to Mui Ne by Train
Both Hoi An and Mui Ne don’t have their own railway stations. You can only take the train from Da Nang (1 hour away from Hoi An) to Binh Thuan (1.5 hours away from Mui Ne).
Despite the extra transfers to get to/from the railway stations, the train is a safer way to get from Hoi An to Mui Ne. You can travel overnight on a comfortable train bunk and arrive fully-recharged at your destination. For us, all these make train travel worth the extra cost compared to taking a bus.
Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang Railway Station by Minivan
To get from Hoi An to Da Nang, you can take either a minivan for 155,000 VND ($6.50) or a private transfer for around 440,000 VND ($18.50).
Minivans depart from Hoi An every day from 06:00 to 20:00. This means that even if you take the last minivan to the train station, you will have a 2-hour wait for the only night train operating from Da Nang to Mui Ne. You can use this time to have a late dinner or snacks at a nearby cafe. There are not a lot of food choices inside the station.
If you don’t want to arrive too early at the train station, you can also take a more expensive yet more convenient private transfer. Book your ride through BookAway, which offers comfortable vehicles that come with trusted drivers.
See our guide for Da Nang Railway Station for more details.
IMPORTANT: Cheap buses used to be available for this route. But the last time we checked (February 2023), they were no longer operating from Hoi An to Da Nang.
