From

Hoi An to Mui Ne by Train

17-19hFrom 782,000 VND ($30)

Both Hoi An and Mui Ne don’t have their own railway stations. You can only take the train from Da Nang (1 hour away from Hoi An) to Binh Thuan (1.5 hours away from Mui Ne).

Despite the extra transfers to get to/from the railway stations, the train is a safer way to get from Hoi An to Mui Ne. You can travel overnight on a comfortable train bunk and arrive fully-recharged at your destination. For us, all these make train travel worth the extra cost compared to taking a bus.

Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang Railway Station by Minivan

1 hour155,000 VND ($5.90)

To get from Hoi An to Da Nang, you can take either a minivan for 155,000 VND ($5.90) or a private transfer for around 440,000 VND ($17).

Minivans depart from Hoi An every day from 06:00 to 20:00. This means that even if you take the last minivan to the train station, you will have a 2-hour wait for the only night train operating from Da Nang to Mui Ne. You can use this time to have a late dinner or snacks at a nearby cafe. There are not a lot of food choices inside the station.

If you don’t want to arrive too early at the train station, you can also take a more expensive yet more convenient private transfer. Book your ride through BookAway, which offers comfortable vehicles that come with trusted drivers.

See our guide for Da Nang Railway Station for more details.

IMPORTANT: Cheap buses used to be available for this route. But the last time we checked (October 2024), they were no longer operating from Hoi An to Da Nang.

Step 2: Da Nang to Binh Thuan by Train

14h 30m - 16h 30m566,000 VND ($22)

There are several trains available every day from Da Nang to Binh Thuan Railway Station, but there is only one train that operates overnight.

We recommend that you take the lone night train for this journey that takes 14h 30m - 16h 30m. This way, you can save a night on accommodation and you also won’t lose an entire day on the journey.

Train ticket prices start from 566,000 VND ($22) for a second class seat. But for the most comfort for this long journey, we recommend getting a bunk in a 4-berth cabin. That’s more expensive than a bus ticket, but will allow you to get a good night’s sleep.
