Overview Compare Bus Train To Stay
How to get from Mui Ne to Hoi An
There are 2 ways to travel the 725 km journey from Mui Ne to Hoi An: by bus for 13 hours and by train for 15.5 hours. Rates start from $19 (450,000 VND) and $41.50 (976,000 VND), respectively.
First of all, we do not recommend travelling from Mui Ne to Hoi An in one leg. There are a number of scenic destinations between these two cities that are worth making a stop. You can break the journey and spend a day or more in Dalat, Nha Trang or Quy Nhon, before continuing on to Hoi An.
If you don’t have extra time in your itinerary, you can take a bus or a train.
The bus is the cheapest option with fares from $19 (450,000 VND). It leaves from Mui Ne centre and drops you off in the centre of Hoi An so it’s quite convenient. Still, it will be a long 13-hour journey and buses in Vietnam aren’t the most comfortable mode of transport.
The train offers more comfort and is safer than travelling by bus. There are no direct trains from Mui Ne to Hoi An so you will need extra time to get to and from the nearest train stations. But what we like about the train is that you can travel overnight and save one night on accommodation.
Thinking of taking a flight from Mui Ne to Hoi An? There is no airport in Mui Ne. The closest airports are in Ho Chi Minh (4 hours away) and Nha Trang (3 hours away). When you add the travel time to and from the airports, you don’t really get to save time when you travel this route by plane.
Mui Ne to Hoi An by Bus
Hanh Cafe offers one daily bus trip from Mui Ne to Hoi An.
The advantage of this option is that the bus takes you from the centre of Mui Ne to the centre of Hoi An. The disadvantage is that the bus operates during the day, which means you will lose an entire day on the 13-hour bus journey.
Another point you should consider is that Hanh Cafe —the sole bus operator for this route — does not get the best reviews. It has gotten more than a few complaints for its “rude” staff and delayed departure times.
Still want to travel by bus? Ticket prices from Mui Ne to Hoi An start from $19 (450,000 VND).
Departure and arrival station
Hanh Cafe departs from its headquarters in Mui Ne centre, just a short taxi ride from Mui Ne Beach. It arrives at its terminal in Hoi An centre, within walking distance of many hotels in the Old Town.

Mui Ne to Hoi An by Train
When travelling by railway from Mui Ne to Hoi An, you will take the train from Binh Thuan Railway Station (formerly called Muong Man). Do not mistake this with Phan Thiet Railway Station, which is the closest train station to Mui Ne.
Also, Hoi An does not have its own railway station. The nearest one is in Da Nang, 1 hour away by bus or taxi.
Despite being indirect, what we like about taking the train from Mui Ne to Hoi An is that you can travel overnight. And although train fares are more expensive than the bus, you can save a night on hotel costs.
Step 1: Mui Ne to Binh Thuan Railway Station by Bus
From Mui Ne city centre, you can take Bus #9 to get to Binh Thuan Railway Station. That’s a 1.5-hour ride that costs around $1.40 (35,000 VND). Check out our guide for Mui Ne Train Station to know the bus route and the nearest bus stop to your hotel.

Step 3: Da Nang Railway Station to Hoi An by Minivan
From Da Nang Railway Station, the cheapest way to get to Hoi An is by minivan. Fares start from $6.50 (155,000 VND) for the 1-hour journey.
Minivans are available every day from 07:00 to 21:00. They pick you up from Da Nang Railway Station and then drop you off at Hoi An town centre.
If you want to take a taxi, you can hail one from just outside the train station. Taxi fares start from $18.50 (440,000 VND). It’s worth noting though that taxi drivers here are known for driving too fast.
For a more comfortable minivan or private ride, we recommend pre-booking your ride online through BookAway. Check out our page on Da Nang Railway Station for more info.
IMPORTANT: The cheapest way to travel between Da Nang and Hoi An used to be the local Bus #1. But the last time we checked (February 2023), this was no longer in operation. Some touts take advantage of this by urging travellers to take overpriced taxis. This is why it’s best to book your ride with a company you trust beforehand.
