Mui Ne to Hoi An by Train

16-18hFrom 729,000 VND ($28)

When travelling by railway from Mui Ne to Hoi An, you will take the train from Binh Thuan Railway Station (formerly called Muong Man). Do not mistake this with Phan Thiet Railway Station, which is the closest train station to Mui Ne.

Also, Hoi An does not have its own railway station. The nearest one is in Da Nang, 1 hour away by bus or taxi.

Despite being indirect, what we like about taking the train from Mui Ne to Hoi An is that you can travel overnight. And although train fares are more expensive than the bus, you can save a night on hotel costs.

Step 1: Mui Ne to Binh Thuan Railway Station by Bus

1.5 hours35,000 VND ($1.30)

From Mui Ne city centre, you can take Bus #9 to get to Binh Thuan Railway Station. That’s a ride that takes 1.5 hours and costs around 35,000 VND ($1.30). Check out our guide for Mui Ne Train Station to know the bus route and the nearest bus stop to your hotel.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi with fares from 500,000 VND ($19).

Step 2: Binh Thuan to Da Nang by Train

13h 30m - 15h 30m526,000 VND ($20)

There are several trains operating daily from Binh Thuan to Da Nang. But since this is a journey that takes 13h 30m - 15h 30m, it’s best to take an overnight train so that you don’t lose an entire day on the trip. You can see our recommended schedules in the table below.

You can get a second-class seat for around 526,000 VND ($20). But for this long journey, we recommend booking a 4-sleeper cabin for more comfort. A bunk in a 6-berth cabin is cheaper, but does not have as much room.

Booking Tip

We recommend booking your tickets online through BookAway. Their site is intuitive, provides a clear picture of what you can expect, and offers great customer service. If you're eyeing the best deals, you might occasionally find slightly cheaper tickets on Baolau.

Step 3: Da Nang Railway Station to Hoi An by Minivan

1 hour155,000 VND ($5.90)

From Da Nang Railway Station, the cheapest way to get to Hoi An is by minivan. Fares start from 155,000 VND ($5.90) for the journey that takes 1 hour.

Minivans are available every day from 07:00 to 21:00. They pick you up from Da Nang Railway Station and then drop you off at Hoi An town centre.

If you want to take a taxi, you can hail one from just outside the train station. Taxi fares start from 440,000 VND ($17). It’s worth noting though that taxi drivers here are known for driving too fast.

For a more comfortable minivan or private ride, we recommend pre-booking your ride online through BookAway. Check out our page on Da Nang Railway Station for more info.

IMPORTANT: The cheapest way to travel between Da Nang and Hoi An used to be the local Bus #1. But the last time we checked (October 2024), this was no longer in operation. Some touts take advantage of this by urging travellers to take overpriced taxis. This is why it’s best to book your ride with a company you trust beforehand.

Mui Ne to Hoi An by Bus

18-20hFrom 671,000 VND ($26)

There are three companies offering daily bus trips from Mui Ne to Hoi An: Hanh Cafe, Techbus VN JSC and Full Moon Party

The advantage of this option is that the bus takes you from the centre of Mui Ne to the centre of Hoi An. The disadvantage is that the bus operates during the day, which means you will lose an entire day on the bus journey that takes 18-20h.

Another point you should consider is that some bus operators for this route like Hanh Cafe do not get the best reviews. It has gotten more than a few complaints for its “rude” staff and delayed departure times.
