We recommend to book a night train so you don’t lose a day travelling and you can get a good night’s sleep.
Hoi An does not have its own railway station. That’s why you need to book a train from Nha Trang to DaNang. When you arrive at DaNang railway station, you can take a local bus or shuttle bus to Hoi An.
If you are on a strict budget, the bus might be better for you. But keep in mind that travelling by bus is not the safest option in Vietnam. If you decide to travel by bus, we recommend to take the night bus since it will be a long 10.5-hour journey.
Flying is the fastest option, but also consider you need to be 2 hours in advance at the airport. Considering that you can only fly during the day, the night train or bus might even save you time. But if you don’t want to travel by night then flying is the best way to go.
From DaNang railway station to Hoi An center takes 45min by public bus. The buses are waiting just outside the railway station. You can also take a taxi or shuttle bus if you want to arrive closer to your destination.
Taking the night bus is an easy and cheap way to travel from Nha Trang to Hoi An, but not as safe as the trains.
Buses depart in the center of Nha Trang and also drop you off in the center of Hoi An. The bus takes about the same time as the train from Nha Trang to Hoi An. But with the bus, you don’t have to transfer from DaNang to Hoi An city center.
Still, keep in mind that 10 hours of travelling by bus can be exhausting and sleeping in the night train is much more convenient and safer.
See the bus schedule of two popular bus companies below:
The Sinh Tourist
330,000 VND ($13.50)
250,000 VND ($10.50)
Another company on this route is Futa Bus. But since their reputation is not that good, we recommend to book a bus with Hanh Cafe or The Sinh Tourist instead.

The online activity platform Klook offers many tours in Hoi An at great prices. I used it now for a couple of times and had great experiences. And the prices are often even lower than when you book with a local travel agent!
And most important, by booking the activity in advance, you avoid the problem of fully booked tours.
