4 ways to get from Rome to Naples
There are 4 ways to travel the distance of 225 kilometers (140 miles) from Rome to Naples by bus (2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes), Day Trip (12 hours), private Transfer (2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes) and train (45 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes). The journey duration ranges between 45 minutes - 12 hours and the quickest way is by train. The lowest priced tickets start from €5.50 for the bus.Rome to Naples by Bus
The bus can be a cheap alternative to the train if you book early and are flexible with your schedule. Travel time is around 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes, which is about the same time as the regionale train.
Every now and then, FlixBus offers rates as low as €3. That’s not every day though, and you really have to be on the lookout if you want to buy cheap tickets.
Bus fares from Rome to Naples usually start from €5.50.
Departure and arrival station
Buses depart from Roma Tiburtina Bus Station, located beside the train station of the same name. It’s also near Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore in the city centre.
You will be dropped off at Naples Metropark, just beside Napoli Centrale.

Airport transfer to Naples
Are you coming from either Rome Ciampino Airport or Rome Fiumicino Airport? If so, then you can also take a shuttle bus straight to Naples.
Fiumicino Express offers shuttle buses from both airports. From Ciampino Airport to Naples, travel time is about 2.5 hours, while it takes 3 hours from Fiumicino Airport. Tickets cost €28.

The last stop for the shuttle buses from the airports is also Naples Metropark.
Rome to Naples by Train
Travelling by train from Rome to Naples offers the best value for money. It is one of the cheapest options for this route, and there are train departures from 05:31 to 22:35 daily.
Travel time is between 45 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes.
Two types of trains
Regionale trains
Regional trains are the cheapest trains on this route at €14 . However, travel time is 3-4 hours, about twice of high-speed trains.
High-speed trains
There are also high-speed trains from Rome to Naples. The cheaper one is the 2-hour Intercity train for €14.
If you want to get to Naples more quickly, you can take the Italo or Freccia train with a 1.5-hour travel time. They have more departures daily but cost a few euros more.
Departure and arrival station
Trains depart from Roma Termini in the city centre. Note that there are also a few departures from Roma Tiburtina, about 3 km east of Roma Termini.
You are to get off at Napoli Centrale Station within Naples city centre.

Private transfers in Italy are quite expensive. We don’t recommend them when travelling from one city to another, especially since the country has a really efficient train system. But if you’re travelling with kids or people with limited mobility, then indeed a door-to-door ride is the most convenient.
Fares for a 4-seater taxi ride from Rome to Naples start from €300. Thinking of taking Uber? Rates start from €415 with an Uber Black Saver, but it can only accommodate up to 2 people.
Taxis in Italy are generally okay as long as the metre is turned on. If you’re looking for the cheapest private transfer, then the taxi is the way to go. You can hail one from the street or get a ride from a taxi stand. Note that it’s not customary for Italian drivers to approach commuters and offer a ride.
