Nusa Penida to Lombok by Direct Ferry

The direct ferry is the fastest way to travel from Nusa Penida to Lombok. Travel time is 1h 30m - 3h 30m, and ticket prices start from $15 (270,000 IDR).

Most ferries operate directly between the two islands. But sometimes, they make a stop in one or all of the Gili Islands before docking in Lombok. Check your booking beforehand to avoid surprises.

Departure ports in Nusa Penida

In Nusa Penida, there are several piers, all located on the island’s northern coast.

The largest one is Buyuk Harbour on the northeast, used by operators like Semaya One and Bluewater Express. The other ports on the island are Banjar Nyuh Harbour on the northwest coast and Toya Pakeh Harbour, just 750m south of Banjar Nyuh.

Arrival ports in Lombok

Ferries arrive at the two main piers in Lombok: Bangsal Pier and Senggigi Pier. Both are on the island’s west coast, but Senggigi Pier is more centrally located.

You'll find Bangsal Pier on the northwest coast, close to the Gili Islands. From Bangsal, it’s a 30-40 minute drive south to Senggigi, and about a 2-hour drive to Kuta in south Lombok. The easiest way to get to your hotel is by private transfer, with fares from $6.70 (120,000 IDR) to Senggigi and $23 (400,000 IDR) to Kuta.

Senggigi Ferry Terminal is more convenient if you are staying in Senggigi (Rinjani basecamp) or in Lombok's tourist hub, Kuta, on the south coast. The 10-minute taxi ride from Senggigi Pier to Senggigi should cost around $2.20 (40,000 IDR). To Kuta, fares start from $20 (350,000 IDR).

Indirect Ferryfrom$291h 45m – 7h 30m·Via Sanur, Bali66 options to book

Nusa Penida to Lombok by Indirect Ferry

If the direct ferries are fully booked, you can take an indirect ferry from Nusa Penida to Lombok. With this option, you must get off the boat in Bali and take another ferry to Lombok.

We don't recommend taking an indirect ferry for this route unless there is really no direct ferry available. It takes longer and is more expensive than buying a direct ticket.

Combined rates start from $32 (570,000 IDR) for ferries with a transfer in Padang Bai and $27 (485,000 IDR) for fast boats via Sanur.

Total travel time with the indirect ferry is 1h 45m - 7h 30m, but this doesn’t include the waiting time between the ferry trips.

Via Sanur or Padang Bai?

From Nusa Penida, you can take a ferry to either Sanur or Padang Bai in Bali. Sanur has the most departures from Nusa Penida, with crossings taking just 30 minutes to 1 hour. From Sanur, you can then catch a connecting ferry to Lombok.

Padang Bai is the closest harbour to Lombok, so the second leg of the journey is shorter from there. The crossing to Lombok takes only about 1.5 hours. Just note that fewer ferries run between Nusa Penida and Padang Bai, so check the connection times carefully when booking.

If the ferry schedules don’t match, you can take a taxi between Sanur and Padang Bai. This gives you the most departure options from Nusa Penida to Bali and the most departure times from Bali to Lombok.

If there is any delay and you miss the connecting ferry, you may have to spend the night in Bali, so leave enough time between the two boats.

Via Serangan Pier

Note that there are also ferry trips from Nusa Penida to Serangan Pier in Bali, with connecting ferries from Serangan to Lombok. Check the departure times of both legs carefully. Depending on the schedules, you may need to stay the night in Bali when travelling via Serangan.

Step 1: Nusa Penida to Bali by Ferry

Below, you’ll find the ferry schedules from Nusa Penida to Sanur and Padang Bai in Bali. We recommend booking a ferry with at least 1.5 hours between your arrival in Bali and the departure of the connecting ferry to Lombok.

Departure ports in Nusa Penida

Most ferries from Nusa Penida to Bali depart from the piers on the island’s northern coast — Banjar Nyuh Harbour, Buyuk and Toya Pakeh. Double-check the departure point on your ticket to avoid delays.

Arriving at Bangsal Pier in Lombok

Bangsal Pier is a small port on Lombok's northwest coast. It’s the main gateway between Lombok and the Gili Islands, as well as a common stopover for boats servicing the Nusa Penida – Bali – Lombok – Gili route.

Getting to Senggigi

The easiest way to reach your accommodation in Senggigi from Bangsal Pier is by taxi. Fares start at $6.40 (115,000 IDR), and the journey takes approximately 30 minutes along the scenic coastal road.

Bluebird is the most reliable taxi company. You can flag it down in the street, book a car by phone (0370 627000) or hail a ride via a dedicated app.

Another option is to ask your hotel if they offer shared rides from Bangsal Pier. This will help save a few dollars, although the travel time will likely take a little longer.

Getting to Kuta in South Lombok

From Bangsal to Kuta, there are no metered taxis such as BlueBird at the pier, but plenty of tour desks can arrange a private transfer. You can also inquire at your accommodation beforehand for a taxi.

Most taxis can accommodate up to four passengers, while larger cars or vans are available on request. Expect to pay at least $23 (400,000 IDR) for this 2-hour journey from Bangsal Pier to Kuta.

STAY

Our favourite places to stay in Lombok

Lombok is a magnificent and diverse island with so much to offer. Most people visiting Lombok tend to base themselves in Kuta or Sengiggi.

Kuta — Not to be confused with Kuta in Bali, is a paradise for surfers and beach lovers. Located on the south coast it boasts a laidback and relaxing vibe that some refer to as Bali 10 years ago

Sengiggi — is a popular basecamp for visiting Mount Rinjani. Its location on the west coast of Lombok, next to the port makes it a popular destination to stay. We don’t think you should spend too much time here. Sure, it has a nice beach, plenty of restaurants and some nightlife, but you’ll find all of this in and around Kuta, but ten times better.

Check out our favourite accommodations in both of these places:

The rooms are spacious, bright and designed with a Balinese flair. Some of the rooms even have a dreamy outdoor bathroom where you can shower under the stars. As if it couldn’t get any better, the staff are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

ABOUT YOUR DESTINATION

Why Visit Lombok?

Lombok is the more serene island paradise version of its neighbour Bali. Here you'll find long, often near-deserted stretches of white sand beaches, amazing waves, beguiling waterfalls, and the majestic Mt. Rinjani — one of Indonesia’s highest volcanoes.

The South Lombok coastline is a true surfing mecca, while the main tourist hub Kuta is more peaceful than its hectic namesake in Bali. On the northern part of the island, you’ll see the heavenly Gili Islands, a group of three small islands that you can reach via a 30-minute boat ride from Lombok.
