How to travel from and to Lombok Airport
The island of Lombok can be found to the east of Bali, part of the West Nusa Tenggara province. Unlike Bali though, tourism hasn’t yet altered the islands rich culture or been infiltrated by smoothie bowls.
If your travelling to or from Lombok via the air, then you’ll find yourself at Lombok International Airport, or also called Praya Airport. The official name of this airport is: Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, but let’s keep it by Lombok Airport.
There was also used to be an airport in Mataram, the capital of Lombok, but this airport closed in 2011. Lombok Airport is now located in the southern part of the Island, some 50 km southeast of Senggigi and just 20 km away from Kuta, Lombok.
To get from Lombok Airport to some of the islands top hotspots you have two options: When travelling to Senggigi or Mataram you can take a bus with fares from 25,000 IDR ($1.60). Travelling to Kuta or want a more convenient ride? Then you can take a taxi with rates starting from 132,000 IDR ($8.50). Travel time is 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on where you’re heading on the island.
2 ways to get from Lombok Airport to Lombok City Centre
If your hotel is located in either Senggigi or Mataram (the province’s capital), you can save a lot of money by taking the bus. Ticket prices start from only 25,000 IDR ($1.60) and travel time is between 1 to 1.5 hours. Note that airport buses depart once every hour.
If you’re heading to the surfing town of Kuta it only takes a short 30-minute drive. Airport buses are not available for this route and that’s why we would recommend the taxi. Rates to Kuta start from 132,000 IDR ($8.50). The 45-minute journey to Mataram and the 1.5 hours to Senggigi cost slightly more at 235,000 IDR ($15) and 175,000 IDR ($11) respectively.
Throughout this post, we mainly focus on travelling from the airport to your destination. If you’re doing the opposite and travelling to Lombok airport, then simply reverse the information we’ve included!
