How to get from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi?

Koh Phi Phi is an extremely popular island in the south of Thailand. The Island became very well known after the movie “The Beach” was filmed at Maya Beach. Unfortunately, Maya Bay is now closed until mid-2021 to revive and protect sea life, but there is still so much to see and do in the area.

Taking a boat cruise through the National Park with a stop at Monkey Beach is one of the most popular tours from Koh Phi Phi. If you prefer to relax on the beach and soak up the sun then this island offers countless beaches and beautiful blue waters.

There is only 1 option to travel the 46kms from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi and that is by boat. The journey will take about 2 hours and cost you at least $12.  You can simply kick back and relax while taking in the picturesque views along this journey.

To travel from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi, you need to book a ferry.

There are plenty of trips departing daily from various piers in Phuket. Most trips depart from Rassada Pier, but there are also some from Sea Angel Pier, Yamu Pier, and Bang Rong Pier. It might be best to pick whichever is closest to your accommodation.

Ferry journeys from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi take at least 2 hours. Speedboats are an hour faster, but more expensive.

We suggest booking online for your ferry ride from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi. Purchasing one at the pier tends to be more expensive. You can also purchase a ferry ticket from your hotel or a local travel agency.

Ferries going to Koh Phi Phi dock at either Tonsai Pier or Laem Tong Beach Pier. Tonsai is the main pier while Laem Tong is a smaller pier located on the northern portion of the island.

Upon arriving on Koh Phi Phi, all travellers are required to pay a fee of 20 THB ($0.70) per person. These funds are used to keep the island clean and to cover waste management costs.

All-Inclusive Tours to Koh Phi Phi

Another option you have is to book an all-inclusive tour. At first glance, the price of a tour can seem quite expensive. However, if you identify its inclusions they are often a good deal. This, of course, depends on what is included in the tour package.

Tours usually include transport (single or round trip), food, island fees and the use of equipment for water activities.

Packaged tours can be purchased from any travel agency or your hotel in Phuket.
