How to get from Krabi to Bangkok?

Ready to explore the Capital City of Thailand? When travelling the 785km distance to Bangkok from Krabi, you have 3 options: you can catch a flight for 1.5 hours or take a bus or train for about 12.5 hours. The prices range from $25 to $36, depending on which travel option you choose.

The flight is the most common option when travelling from Krabi to Bangkok. This option takes 1.5 hours and costs only a few more dollars than taking the bus or train, considering the amount of time you can save.

Travelling by bus takes at least 12 hours. But if you travel by night, you won’t lose valuable daytime and you can also save a night on accommodation.

The train is a more comfortable option than the bus, but you will first have to travel to the nearest train station, which is in Surat Thani. This train journey takes at least 12.5 hours and you can choose between a scenic daytime ride or a good rest with the night train.

Krabi to Bangkok by Flight

Duration: 1.5 hours
Cost: 1,090 THB ($36)

Flying from Krabi to Bangkok is the most popular travel option. A flight is only a few dollars more than the bus and shaves off nearly 10 hours of travel time.

You will first need to arrange a transfer from your hotel to Krabi International Airport (KVB). Your hotel may be able to help with this or you can arrange your own airport transfer, which will cost about 300 THB ($10).

AirAsia, Thai Lion Air and Nok Air are the three low-cost carriers that operate daily flights for this route. Flights land at Don Muang Airport (DKM), which is about 30 minutes north of Bangkok’s city center.

Flight prices start at  790 THB ($26) when booked in advance. Keep in mind that during peak seasons, ticket prices go up as the demand is higher.

Krabi to Bangkok by Bus

Duration: 12.5 hours
Cost: 760 THB ($25)

If you want to save a few dollars and don’t mind the extra travel time, then the bus is another great option. We suggest travelling this route at night bus to catch up on some rest and save a few dollars on accommodation costs for the night.

You will need to arrange a transfer to the bus station from your hotel. During peak season you can also catch a songthaew along the street that is heading to the bus terminal from Ao Nang or Krabi Town. From Ao Nang, the fare is 60 THB ($1.90) and from Krabi, it’s usually a little cheaper.

Lignite Tour is the most popular bus operator for this route, but Songserm is also a good option with its free pick-up service in Krabi town. Below we have included their bus schedules:

Most buses arrive at the Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal in Bangkok. But note that Songserm’s 16:00 trip arrives at Mo Chit Bus Terminal. Depending on the route the bus takes, you can ask the bus staff to drop you off in a designated spot if your destination is along the way.


Krabi to Bangkok by Train

Duration: 12.5 hours
Cost: 880 THB ($29)

If you have time to spare and want to experience the authenticity of Thailand’s train travel then taking the train is another option. You will first need to travel from Krabi to the Surat Thani train station to complete this journey. 

Step 1: Krabi to Surat Thani by Van

Duration: 3 hours
Cost: 240 THB ($8)

From Krabi, you need to take a van to reach Surat Thani Train Station. You can choose from 2 van operators.

Phantip Travel can take you from Krabi Bus Terminal to Surat Thani Train Station for 240 THB ($8). Travel time is between 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

If you don’t want to worry about the transfer from your hotel to the bus terminal, you can also travel with Hat Yai World Tour. Their tickets are more expensive at 450 THB ($15), but that already includes pick-up from your hotel in Krabi.

Step 2: Surat Thani to Bangkok by Train

Duration: 9.5 hours
Cost: 640 THB ($21)

From Surat Thani, the quickest trains bound for Bangkok depart at 10:40 and 20:41. You can either take the daytime train and enjoy the scenic route or take a night train and get a good night’s sleep.

You can book a 2nd class seat for as low as 390 THB ($13). However, a seat may be too uncomfortable for a 9-hour journey.
