How to travel from/to Surat Thani Railway Station?

Surat Thani Railway Station connects the bus and ferry services to and from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.

The train station is a busy one due to the large number of passengers that pass through Surat Thani train station going to destinations on the Andaman coast, such as Krabi and Phuket, which are not connected to Thailand’s railway network.

The Surat Thani Station is on the Southern Line which runs from Bangkok to Southern destinations on the Malaysian border at Sungai Kolok and Padang Besa. This train station is considered “tourist-friendly” for using both English and Thani in the station’s announcements.

Taking the bus to and from Surat Thani Railway Station is the cheapest option at 20 THB ($0.50). With these orange-coloured public buses, you can reach the town centre in 40-50 minutes.

The bus is a very cheap way to travel from Surat Thani Railway Station to the city centre. You can easily find these orange-coloured buses in the parking area outside the station.

A bus ride to the town centre costs about 20 THB ($0.50). There are buses every 15 minutes throughout the day, but note that there are fewer buses operating after 19:00.

Depending on traffic, the journey takes about 40-50 minutes to reach the town centre from Surat Thani Railway Station. As this is a local bus, it will make numerous stops along the way.

If you’re travelling from the city centre to Surat Thani Railway Station, you can find the local buses at Surat Thani Talad Kaset 1 Station. This is located within walking distance of many hotels in the city.

If you prefer to travel in comfort from Surat Thani Railway Station to the town centre, you can hail a taxi. You can book one at the taxi service counter just outside of the train station, and you can easily find it with its sign that reads ‘low-cost taxi service.’

The taxi service uses regular cars to transport travellers to different destinations throughout Surat Thani. A taxi ride to the town centre starts from 140 THB ($3.80) and takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

If you’re not going to the town centre, you can compare the distance of travelling to the town centre (15 km) and your desired destination to ensure the price is fair.
