The distance from Phuket to Koh Lipe is 185 km (115 miles). In this post, we compare the 3 options to travel from Phuket to Koh Lipe: by ferry (5-7 hours), by flight and ferry (5-7 hours), and by combined bus and ferry (11-14 hours excl. transfer time). Ticket prices range from 1,210 THB ($33.50) to 3,400 THB ($94).

Travelling by ferry is the easiest way to travel from Phuket to Koh Lipe. It will be a very scenic journey that makes the trip an experience on its own. The disadvantage is that the tickets for this 5-7 hour direct ferry aren’t cheap at 3,400 THB ($94).

Alternatively, it will be cheaper to travel first to Hat Yai and take a 4-6 hour ferry from there to Koh Lipe. The quickest way is to take a 1-hour direct flight from Phuket to Hat Yai. Total cost starts from 2,000 THB ($55) and travel time is about the same as the direct ferry.

Because it’s still not a super cheap option, we share one more alternative: Instead of flying to Hat Yai, you can also take a bus from Phuket to Hat Yai. From there you can take the same combination of minivan and ferry to Koh Lipe. The total cost for this journey starts from 1,210 THB ($33.50), but be prepared for a long trip!

Note that all tourists must pay a 200 THB ($5.50) entrance fee to Koh Lipe.

The two ferry companies that operate from Phuket to Koh Lipe are Bundhaya Speedboat and Satun Pakbara Speedboat. The ferry operators have alternating schedules which means that only one ferry leaves per day.

Tigerline High-Speed Ferry used to be another popular operator for the Phuket to Koh Lipe route. But the last time we checked (May 2022), this company is unavailable.

Note that ferry tickets used to be cheaper at 2,550 THB ($70) with all 3 ferry companies. However, due to the pandemic, the companies raised their rates and operate less often. Likely this will change once the demand for this route rises again.
