The fastest way to travel the 635km distance from Hoi An to Dalat is by flight. The flight takes only 3.5 hours, including transfers, and tickets start from $58. Other options include taking the train (15 hours) or the bus (14 hours).
Booking a direct flight can be quite expensive at $44 one-way. But it takes only 1 hour and 15 minutes. Note though that you will still need transfers to and from the airports. When taking a flight, you have to book one from DaNang to Dalat.
Another option is to take the night train from DaNang railway station to Nha Trang. You can then spend the morning in Nha Trang and take the bus that leaves at 13:00 to Dalat. The advantage of the train is thatyou can have a good night of sleep while crossing the largest distance.
A direct bus is also an option, but it will be a very long journey and is not as safe as taking the train.
There is only one direct flight leaving from DaNang airport to Dalat airport (Lien Khuong) daily. This is from Vietnam Airlines and Tickets start from 1,020,000 VND ($44) if you book weeks in advance. The flight takes 1h 15min.
There are also several direct flights operating on this route, but they are normally more expensive. They make a stopover in Ho Chi Minh and take more than 4.5 hours.
PRO-TIP: Use the free N26 debit card to avoid the extra fees charged by your bank. This N26 debit card is becoming very popular among travellers, because they don't charge any fees on payments in foreign currencies (most banks charge 3%-5%). New members can order one for free on the N26 website

Dalat railway station is not connected with Hoi An (DaNang) or Nha Trang. For this reason, you have to take the train from Da Nang railway station to Nha Trang and then continue by bus to Dalat.
Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang Railway Station by Bus
Duration: 45min Cost: 300,000 VND ($13)
The last public bus bound for Da Nang leaves at 18:00 in Hoi An. This means you might have to take a taxi if you are taking night train SE9 from Da Nang to Nha Trang. A taxi ride costs between 300,000 VND ($13) to 400,000 VND ($17.50).
But if you are taking an earlier train, it will be much cheaper to take the public bus to Da Nang as it only costs only 20,000 VND ($1).
When you arrive in Nha Trang, you can take a few hours of break from travelling before proceeding to Dalat.
The railway station from Nha Trang is just a 10-15min walk from the center/beach so this will be a perfect moment to stretch your legs after the train ride. You can get breakfast in the center of Nha Trang or maybe even have a morning swim in the ocean before you take the bus at 13:00 to Dalat.
We recommend to book the bus tickets in advance so you won’t risk that bus tickets on that day will be sold out.
All buses from Hoi An to Dalat go via Nha Trang and do not go straight to Dalat. This makes it quite a long journey that will take between 14 and 19.5 hours, depending on the driver.
We recommend booking with Hanh Cafe or Sinh Tourist bus since these are both well-known companies. Note that although An Phu Travel has the fastest travel time, it doesn’t receive the best reviews.
When we traveled this route ourselves, we booked a bus that left at 19:00 from Hoi An and was supposed to arrive around 10:00 in Dalat. Somehow, the bus driver managed to arrive 3 hours earlier (at 7:00) in Dalat.
Luckily, we arrived all well and safe, but bear in mind that this is definitely not the safest option. For this reason, we recommend travelling by plane or train instead. The reason we traveled by bus was that it was ‘Tet Holiday’ and all train tickets and flights to Dalat were fully booked.
