Brac is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, between Split and Hvar. It’s nowhere near as popular as its neighbours, which adds to its charm. Tourists who visit Brac are rewarded with quiet time with nature and a laidback island experience.
Here, you’ll find one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia — Zlatni Rat Beach (Golden Horn) — a unique spit of land surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters. Also famous in Brac is its world-class olive oil. Over a million olive trees are on the island, and Brac is Croatia’s largest olive plantation!

There are 6 ways to travel the 35 kilometre (22 miles) distance from Split to Brac. You can choose between the bus, private transport, High-Speed ferry, High-Speed ferry via Milna, car ferry via Supetar and day trip. The journey takes 25 minutes - 7 hours and the quickest way is by high-speed ferry via Milna. If you're on a budget, the cheapest option is by high-speed ferry via Milna with tickets starting at €6.10 ($7).

Split to Brac by High-Speed Ferry
High-speed ferries and catamarans are a convenient and direct way to get from Split to Bol, the main tourist area on Brac.
Jadrolinija runs all year round, while Kapetan Luka and KSC Naranca only operate during the summer season (June to September).
Ferry ticket prices start from €19 ($22), and the journey takes around 55 minutes - 1 hour.
Departure and arrival stations
All ferries depart from Split Ferry Port. This pier is within walking distance from most hotels and establishments in the town centre.
The arrival pier at Brac is Bol Port on the island’s south coast, which is also close to hotels and restaurants in the area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Jadrolinija is a popular ferry company and often gets fully booked. Buying a ticket online does not guarantee a trip at your preferred time. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis. So even with an online ticket, if the ferry you booked is already full, you may need to queue for hours at the port for a seat.
To avoid long waiting times, especially during the high season (June-August), we suggest booking with Kapetan Luka or KSC Naranca via BookAway instead.

Split to Brac by High-Speed Ferry via Milna
While most visitors prefer to stay in Bol, some travellers like to stay in Milna, a Dalmatian fishing village about 45 km northwest of Bol. Known as the most beautiful harbour in Brac, it’s a good entry point for exploring the island.
The ferry journey from Split to Milna can take as little as 25 minutes, but the overland transfer to Bol will add an extra hour to the journey. So, we only recommend this route if you’re planning to stay or explore near Milna.
The ferry companies operating on the Split to Milna route are Krilo Shipping Company (KSC Naranca), Jadrolinija, TP Line and Krilo (Kapetan Luka).
Which ferry should you take?
TP Line, Kapetan Luka and KSC Naranca are available daily during summer, while Jadrolinija operates all year but only on Wednesdays.
We recommend travelling with TP Line, Kapetan Luka or KSC Naranca. They have reserved seating for ticket holders, making them well worth the extra euros you spend.
A ferry ride from Split to Brac via Milna takes 25 minutes - 1 hour, depending on the ferry. Ticket prices for high-speed ferries start from €6.10 ($7).
TIP: Check the schedules a few days before your trip to confirm that the ferries are available on your desired date.

Ferries from Split to Milna depart from Split Ferry Port near Split town centre.
The arrival pier is Milna Port on the island’s west coast. If you want to travel to Bol from Milna, you can take a 1-hour taxi ride with rates from €75 ($86).
If you’re on a budget, you can save costs by taking the bus from Milna to Bol. This involves a bus to Supetar and then another bus to Bol. Combined bus prices start from €11 ($12.60), and travel time is around 1h 30m.

Split to Brac by Car Ferry via Supetar
Travelling with a car? Jadrolinija also operates car ferries from Split to Supetar on the northern coast of Brac.
Supetar is the island’s largest town and the main entry port. Conveniently, the Jadrolinija ferry has several departures from 05:15 to midnight during summer (June to September). Even outside the peak season, ferries depart about nine times a day.
The car ferry journey from Split to Supetar takes 50 minutes. A ticket costs €6.50 ($7.50) per passenger, while rates for cars start from €26 ($30).

Car ferries, like passenger ferries, are available at Split Ferry Port.
In Supetar, you’ll arrive at Supetar Ferry Port in the city centre. You can spend a few days (or hours) exploring this town before heading to the main tourist area of Bol. It will be a 45-minute drive through D113 Highway and Bracka Cesta.
If you’re a foot passenger, you can take a bus from Supetar to Bol. This will take about an hour and cost €6 ($6.90). The Supetar Bus Station is just a 5-minute walk from the port.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Online booking for Jadrolinija isn’t always available. You can check the Jadrolinija website or Direct Ferries to see if tickets can be booked in advance. But be aware — Jadrolinija runs on a first-come, first-served basis. Even with an online ticket, if the ferry’s full, you might still have to queue for hours at the port.
Split to Brac by Bus
One of the cheapest ways to get from Split to Brac is by bus, with ticket prices starting at just €9 ($10.30).
There’s a catch, though. Buses operating on this route first take a car ferry from Split to Supetar on Brac’s north coast. From here, the bus travels overland to Bol on the south coast. Travel time with the bus takes around 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes.
While you save on costs, you spend more time travelling. But if you’re not in a hurry, you can enjoy some amazing views along the way.

On Brac, you can get off the bus at either Bol or Supetar.

Split to Brac by Private Transport
For private transfers from Split to Brac, you have two options:
- a private speedboat with airport pickup
- a public ferry with private airport pickup and hotel drop-off in Bol
Private speedboats
Private speedboats are operated by Absolut Charter. If you’re coming from Split Airport (Resnik Airport), you will be picked up by a private car or minivan and brought straight to Matejuska Port. From here, you will transfer to a private speedboat that will take you to Bol Port.
Private ground transfer with public ferry
If you book with Maci Tours, you will also be picked up by a private vehicle from Split Airport and transported to Matejuska Port. But from here, you will transfer to a public ferry. This will take you to Bol Port, where another private vehicle will be waiting to drive you to your hotel.

Split to Brac by Day Trip
Do you only have a few hours to visit Brac? Join a day trip from Split to Brac and let the tour operator handle the planning and transportation for you.

Best places to stay in Brac
Important: Tourism in Croatia is very seasonal. Much of the available accommodation in Croatia is fully booked in the summer, but many sites are closed in the winter months. With July and August being the peak season, rates can rise 3 times as high as compared the low season or shoulder months. We recommend booking your accommodation at least 1 month in advance to lock in better rates.
Before you start reading about our favourite places to stay in Brac, we want to make you aware of the different locations to stay on Brac Island.
- Bol is by far our favourite. It’s a charming port town with lots of watersport activities and outstanding restaurants. This is also where you find the famous Zlatni Rat beach
- Supetar is where most ferries dock. Not as interesting as Bol, but you can find some good value accommodations here. In Supetar, you’ll also find some great hidden beaches to explore.
- Milna is a traditional fishing town which is nice to visit, but we definitely prefer to stay in Bol or Supetar on Brac Island.
Villa Ana - Budget Friendly
At Villa Ana you’ll be just under 250 meters from the beach in Bol. You’ll even be able to see the sea from your own private balcony. If you can’t wait to cool down, then you can just take a dip in the villa’s outdoor swimming pool.
The hosts are beyond helpful and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay possible. The villa even provides home-made wines, olive oil, prosecco and brandy.

Villa Medea - Budget Friendly
If you want to stay in Supetar (the northern part of the island), Villa Midea offers the best value for money. Although the hotel is located just 5 minutes from the beach, you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy a dip in the water as the hotel has its own pool!
The villa offers the feel of a small-scale hotel, with apartments on offer for up to 4 adults. Every room has everything you’ll need, a comfy bed, seating area and even a kitchenette with a coffee machine. Don’t fancy cooking? The hotel offers an exceptional breakfast to start the day right.
