From Thursday to Sunday, Royal Railway operates KiHa model trains on this route. These are refurbished Japanese trains and are noticeably more comfortable than the regular service, with better seating, stronger air-conditioning, and improved onboard facilities.
On days when the KiHa train does not operate, passenger services continue to use older carriages, which are less comfortable and offer fewer amenities.
Note that train travel in Cambodia is slow and delays are common, so this option is best if you are not on a tight schedule. Still, many travellers choose the train because it provides a calmer journey through rural countryside and small towns along the way.
Departure Station
Phnom Penh Railway Station is located right in the city centre, so it’s easy to reach. You can get there by hailing a tuk-tuk or taxi on the street, but using Grab or PassApp often gets you a better rate.
The station itself is a restored historic building and is frequently visited, even by people not taking the train. It has also been renovated in partnership with a mobile phone company, which is why you will find a Cellcard counter inside. Here, you can buy a SIM card, get internet access, or even purchase a phone.

Phnom Penh to Kep by Taxi

You can also hail a taxi on the street, with fares starting from 201,000 KHR ($50) for a one-way trip. Make sure you agree on the rate with the driver so you don’t end up paying more.
Another option is ridesharing. It used to be a popular choice among travellers, and you can still find shared taxis at Psar Dang Kor Taxi Park along Mao Tse Toung Boulevard. A ride will cost 40,000 KHR ($10) per person, but you’ll have to wait until the taxi is full.
