The bus is an affordable way to get from Phnom Penh to Battambang. Bus fares start from 34,000 KHR ($8.50), and the journey takes between 4 hours to 6 hours 30 minutes.
You’ll have six bus companies to choose from, but not all of them are known for reliable service. Trusted names for this route are Giant Ibis, Airbus, and Cambolink21 Express.
There are also sleeper buses available, but note that the journey will take about 6 hours. For this route from Phnom Penh to Battambang, we don’t think a sleeper bus is really necessary.

A train ticket from Phnom Penh to Battambang costs around 41,000 KHR ($10.20), but the journey is slower compared to other options. Travel time is usually around 9 hours 20 minutes.
If you’re not in a rush, the train to Battambang from Phnom Penh offers a laid-back way to travel while taking in the scenic views of the Cambodian countryside.
Just don’t expect everything to be on time. Trains in Cambodia are often delayed, so actual departure and arrival times can be quite a bit later than scheduled.
Royal Railway usually operates KiHa model trains from Thursday to Sunday. These are refurbished Japanese trains and are noticeably more comfortable than the regular service, with better seating, stronger air conditioning, and improved onboard facilities.
On other days, you’ll likely travel on one of the older carriages. They’re more basic, with fewer amenities and less comfortable seating.

The train leaves from Phnom Penh Railway Station right in the city centre. Tuk-tuks and taxis can easily be booked through Grab, PassApp, or Wego.

Phnom Penh to Battambang by Taxi
A private transfer from Phnom Penh to Battambang is the easiest and most convenient option. The journey takes 5 to 6 hours, and you’ll be dropped off right at your accommodation — no need to worry about extra transfers.

The city of Battambang is fairly spread out, however, you’ll find the majority of accommodations are located centrally, near the Sangkae River.
The downtown area is less than 5km from the airport so taking public transportation or hopping in a taxi will be an easy & quick trip to your hotel. The bus terminal is located in the downtown area and will likely be within walking distance of your hotel, or just a short taxi ride away.
